Garage punk THE ATTYCS debut EP "Drama Tape I"

Garage punk THE ATTYCS debut EP "Drama Tape I"
Garage punk THE ATTYCS debut EP "Drama Tape I"
Fuzzy hardly ever writes an unsolicited album review. I can barely keep up with all the requests I receive, so the music needs to really grab me before I will head over to the keyboard and start pecking away with my thoughts. I've got a lot of time on my hands, as our self-imposed 3-week self-exile of social distancing has just started. Hopefully the booze doesn't run out and everyone stays virus-free. The band that got me off my big green ass is THE ATTYCS with their debut EP "Drama Tape I" that is over-charged with raw energy and destructive potential. Check it out:

There are so many sounds on here that I dig. The raw power of a garage trio in "I Want to Fuck." Edgy punk vocals throughout. Heaps of fuzz ("You Suck"). Psychedelic guitar solos ("Friends"). Rockabilly riffs and surf tones ("Coming Through"). Naughty words. This album has it all if you love punk rock. The fact that these dudes are from Switzerland just adds to the insanity.

The Attycs are from Switzerland with members:

  • Sandro Gugger: Drums
  • Colin Steenbergen: Bass
  • Tim Hensel: Fuzz

From the band (via Google Translate):
An indecent, much too loud boy band with dildos throwing around, which is usually wet and chaotic. Nevertheless, or precisely because of this, they manage to animate people from embarrassed shaking their heads to nodding their heads to wild dancing in their energetic live shows. Tinitus and stiff neck guaranteed.

Stoner punk SLUMLORD RADIO new single & Stooges cover

Stoner punk SLUMLORD RADIO new single & Stooges cover
Art by Steven Yoyada
Michigan stoner punks SLUMLORD RADIO have dropped a 2-track blast of noise with their new single "Gonna Be A Riot" along with one of the best covers I've ever heard of one of the best Stooges songs "Now I Wanna Be Your Dog." These loud ass dudes hail from Michigan -- it's no coincidence that is also the home state of Iggy Pop. I dig how fuzzed-out this version is. Check it out:

Slumlord Radio is:
  • Tommy "Capt. Hollywood" Erickson- Vocals/Guitar
  • "Rattlesnake" Matt Claucherty - Drums
  • Michael "The Westside Wolfman" Todd - Bass/Backing vocals

From the band:
Formed in the slums in '10. Scuzzy and fuzzy w/ a side of fancy. The devilicious handsome quartet, bashes out the rock as if they were a dirty version of RUSH. Just some good ol' Action rock/stoner/punk n roll for the kids, cuz givin' back is what it is all about.

MYSTERY DUDES debut stoner punk EP "First Blood"

MYSTERY DUDES debut stoner punk EP
MYSTERY DUDES debut stoner punk EP
MYSTERY DUDES are a stoner punk band who have arrived at the right place at the right time. The place? The stoner doom scene. The time? Right now, with many fans interested in hearing something fresh and that's exactly what Mystery Dudes deliver on their debut EP. It's got fuzzy heavy stoner doom, but it's faster and edgier with shorter songs like you get from punks. Check them out:

First Blood shoots right out of the gate with the instrumental banger, "Mathematrix." This is five solid minutes of energetic riffs with the fuzz and heavy sound to put the stoner into stoner punk.

Next up is "Breaking the Rules" which has even more punk sound with the introduction of angry (but not too angry) vocals. The singing definitely fits the vibe of the music.

In the middle is "Satan's Spawn." Great title. Kinda groovy in a grungy sorta way but the lyrics are punk-ass all the way.

Next to last is the instrumental protest song, "Instrumental Protest Song" which despite the name is perhaps the most mellow song on the EP. And it's about the longest punk song I've ever heard.

"Kill the Lightning" wraps it up fast and hot with fuzzy vocals.

It's no mystery -- you'll dig the Mystery Dudes. And if you like stoner punk, be sure to check out The Swamp's DEAD PANDA along with some other recent stoner punks I've reviewed including MOOZOONSII, BUZZARD CULT, and CAGED WOLVES

Mystery Dudes are from Norway and are:
Bjørnar Lien Roset - Guitar / Vocals
Rolf Bang - Bass
Ola Jørgen Kyrkjeeide - Drums
From the band:
Mystery Dudes will melt your face of with their eclectic,
fuzzed out blend of stoner rock, punk and heavy psych.
Regardless of style, the sonic output is always heavy,
hypnotic and hits you in all the right places at once!
Hailing from the far out corners of Norway's wasteland,
the hard hitting power-trio made Oslo their home base.
There they cultivated heavy riffs and catchy tunes in their secret lair,
before unleashing the beast now known as Mystery Dudes!

CAGED WOLVES alternative stoner rock debut EP

CAGED WOLVES debut EP just dropped with 5 tracks of fuzzy, angry alternative stoner rock. The riffs are fast, the licks are nasty, and the vocals are pissed off. I dig it! Check out Caged Wolves:

Check out the angry lyrics and singing on "Majestic" to get an idea of how Caged Wolves pushes the edge of alternative stoner right into stoner punk. The guitars are pissed off too, with the solo straining to get its point across. After that, the singing goes back to a softer tone as if in defeat. Man this is a really good song on a really good EP. Check these guys out!

You can also hear Caged Wolves on Spotify here.

Another thing I like about this band is that "alternative" for them means "edgy" rather than "shoegaze" and I would even describe them as stoner punks to someone who asked. Their sound is heavy and riffy but fast and angry at the same time, and if you dig them as much as I do, then you should also check out other recent stoner punk albums by bands such as Dead Panda and Mystery Dudes. You could even say there is some grunge going on here too. It's a great thing when a band has their own unique sound, and it has the sounds of many different styles of music. Right on!

And I have to point out, I don't hear a lot of new music coming out of Austria so that's really cool too. Dos Brujos and their non-stop thrash guitars are also from Austria so let's hope we hear more music from there.

Caged Wolves is:
Guitar/Vocals - Johnny Owl
Guitar - Stoner Elvis
Bass - Christian Sorko
Drums - cián
From the band:
Caged Wolves was founded in 2017 in Vienna. Under the motto "MORE FUZZ" the band draws its attention between rock songs and instrumental spherical melodies using the example of legends like Kyuss & Black Sabbath.
Caged Wolves has a show coming up on 12 September in Vienna so follow them to stay in touch:

LOWMAD "LowLand" is a great stoner punk demo

LowMad stoner punk quartet from Belgium
LowMad stoner punk quartet from Belgium
I am really digging into stoner punk these days. I've got a tape split on the way in late August with two stoner punk bands and now I am looking for them everywhere I can. To me, stoner punk combines the heavy bass and riffs of stoner music along with the fast tempo, raw sound, and short songs of punk. LOWMAD doesn't call their debut EP stoner punk, but they do call it stoner, punk, sludge, doom, and metal. And who gives a fuck what the tags are when the music is this good. LowMad combines all these sounds in their unique way, and spin it up with a DIY production which fits perfectly with the punk side of things. Check it out:

"Disobedient Slavery" probably has the most "LowMad" sound, with its heavy bass, fuzz, and layers of guitar coming in for the sonic attacks.

Another vibe I am picking up from LowMad is "weedcore" along the lines of another great demo I heard recently from Halfaya (I'll have a review up for them soon). I love slow heavy music but these tracks with the faster tempo and rippier guitars are really doing it for me too.

Recording and mixing / mastering album costs a lot of money so I am always glad to listen to a demo. Sometimes that is the only way to hear a new band's music. Sometimes you just have to listen past the rough production quality to get to the sound the band is trying to make. But in the case of LowLand, the DIY demo sound is great. I love this. I am sure LowMad will get into a bigger studio in the future, but in the meantime I am really glad to listen to this.

LowMad is a quartet from Belgium:
Christof Bessems - Gitaar, Backing Vocals
Tom Fruytier - Gitaar, Vocals
Philip Couliez - Drum, Backbone
Kenneth De Schepper - Bas, 2nd vocal
Check out the teaser video with a sample from some of the tracks:

Date Animals by Lesbian Wallet stoner punk

Date Animals by Lesbian Wallet stoner punk
Date Animals by Lesbian Wallet
LESBIAN WALLET's new album DATE ANIMALS combines the energy and raw guitar work of punk with the heavy fuzz of stoner. This is likely to be one of the most original albums you will hear all year. Besides the fuzz, another thing that sets Lesbian Wallet apart from a pure punk sound is the length of some of the tracks. "Margherita Hack" gets itself right into stoner territory with its length and heavy sound. And the 3-track set at end? Like I said, this is stoner punk. Right on!

Lesbian Wallet is a stoner punk trio from the midlands of Italy. (Down the road from Kavod, in fact.) The band is Francesco Bordoni (Guitar / Vocals), Francesco Mastellone (Bass), and Simone Romagnoli (Drums).

In their own words:
We play a vicious and occasionally experimental brand of rock with stoner, punk and hardcore elements. Our music draws from a variety of influences (Melvins, The Jesus Lizard, Kyuss, Mclusky to name a few), and since our debut 2016 EP “Elk” it has managed to morph into its own raw, nasty thing.

Don't miss Lesbian Wallet's music video for "Date Animals" on YouTube. It was one of the most popular videos in the 1st Annual Fuzzy Film Festival we held a few weeks ago on IGTV so check it out:
