FREE CODES and Vinyl repress for SPLENDIDULA "Somnus" dual vocal post/sludge metal

FREE CODES and Vinyl release for SPLENDIBULA "Somnus" dual vocal post/sludge metal

Fuzzy remembers when SPLENDIDULA released "Somnus" last year and really enjoyed the heavy riffs and especially the band's unique mix of vocals, with female-fronted singing set at odds with screams from the guitarist. So it's good news to hear that the vinyl has just received a repress from Argonauta Records, and you can grab a code below to add the album to your Bandcamp collection. Listen to "Somnus" by Splendidula:

From the band:

Splendidula is an atmospheric sludge/doom collective from Belgium that was formed in 2008. Big riffs meet pounding beats with atmospheric passages that will lead you into a wild, heavy and psychedelic wonderland, while the bewitched chants by vocalist Kristien and the guitarist’s harsh screams create a unique vocal contrast. After releasing their self-titled debut album in 2013, their acclaimed second album 'Post Mortem' was released in 2018 by Inverse Records from Finland and the Belgian Dust & Bones Records. Following an impressive series of shows In Belgium and The Netherlands, France and Switzerland, supporting acts such as Wiegedood, Alunah, Psychonaut and Wolvennest, Splendidula inked a worldwide record deal with Italian powerhouse label Argonauta Records for the release of their third album 'Somnus' in 2021. The album was mixed by Tim De Gieter at Much Luv Studio (Amenra, Brutus, etc.) and mastered by Grammy Award winning engineer Alan Douches at West West Side Music. The album was very well received both by fans and (inter)national press, and was also released in South America later by Ruidoteka Records.

Instrumental metalgaze"Orenda" by INERTIAL release on Jan. 8

You don't need to ask Fuzzy twice to check out instrumental metal work by a solo band, so I was glad when INTERTIAL sent me a link to the pre-release tracks from the upcoming "Orenda." These 3 preview tracks strike a balance between the energy and tension of prog metal with some of the extended groove of shoegaze.  Check out "Orenda" on Bandcamp:

Definitely worth a listen for any fan of instrumental post-metal, and I'm looking forward to hearing the full album on January 8.

From the band:

Jackson Searfoss is a multi instrumentalist from Central Connecticut who blends his early influences of Progressive Rock and Metal (Ex: Rush, Tool, Oceansize) with Post rock and Alternative influences such as Mogwai, Caspian, Russian Circles and Mono, with a touch of ambience. All of the music is written and composed, recorded, and produced by him in his home studio.

Follow the band to find out when the album is released at https://inertial.bandcamp.com

Codex Tenebris by OLDD WVRMS delivers the dark instrumental doom

Codex Tenebris by OLDD WVRMS
Codex Tenebris by OLDD WVRMS
Codex Tenebris offers nearly an hour of instrumental doom with some post metal edginess. All the tracks are long, the riffs are heavy, and the atmosphere is dark throughout. There is a blend of experimental and industrial going on here that keeps the sound fresh and interesting and involving, without getting away from the heaviness that drives the whole album. I really dig this.

"A l'or, aux ombres et aux abîmes" is the 2nd track (and the shortest at just over seven minutes) and it offers some of the best guitar work of the album. The riff picks up and then slows down again to switch up the pace of the doom, and ends with a relentless pounding before finishing with atmospheric effects.

Dig the very atmospheric video for the lead single "Ténèbres":

The third track "Misère & Corde" might have the most post metal sound to it with plenty of breaks and changes in tempo, and when the guitar solo kicks in to deliver the darkness, it just fits right in. This isn't really the kind of album that lets itself drift into the background. It insists on keeping your attention and rewards you with a variety of dark sounds.

Next to last is "La vallée des tombes" which is the slowest song on the album without losing your interest or the edginess that you hear throughout the album.

"Fléau est son âme" finishes things off with an epic 15 minutes that starts slow and moody and works its way through everything Oldd Wvrms has to offer, and gives a spoken word chant on top of that. This band really delivers.

One of the tags on the album's Bandcamp page is "ritual ambient" and while I think these songs are a little heavy for ambient, there is something about that tag which really works for me. Here is how the band describes their sound:
« Fear is the price for imagination » : these words can describe the descent into the depths of this overwhelming instrumental landscape, drawing his inspiration from all things obscure... Feel the serpent crawl upon your flesh and embrace the haunting emptiness within.

Codex Tenebris by OLDD WVRMS is on Cursed Monk Records where you can grab the CD.
