Ghost Stories by Malkasian with Fuzzy J

Hey remember that comp on Bandcamp I put out earlier this year THE HEAVY SOUTH? So you know I was excited to hear  Ghost Stories by Malkasian with Fuzzy J. Oh yea also I like the name "Fuzzy" and then one last thing -- on their Bandcamp they claim to be the blues band of Edgar Allan Poe who I kinda have a thing for (check out CROW AND POE). So pretty much I had decided to like this collection of groovy Southern blues rockers before I had heard them. And this album delivers. It is rocking, groovy, bluesy, a little heavy in places, a little dark in other places, and overall just a flat-out good album to kick back and listen to. MOOZOONSII debut stoner metal EP

Remember earlier this year when I reviewed a fantastic stoner metal album debut out of Argentina from LOW MACHINE? Here's the link. I love that album, and so does The Swamp Krewe. It is one of the most popular albums we have listened to this year. So when the drummer from Low Machine told me about his other band in France called MOOZOONSII and their new debut self-titled EP, you know I was on it. This has so many elements of my ideal album: instrumental, stoner, metal, and it plays with a consistent killer sound from the very start to the very end. Check out MOOZOONSII:


Each song is unique, yet there is a consistency across all 7 tracks which makes this play out in such a solid way that I have not listened to this yet without playing the entire EP. It's like somehow these songs all need to be played together. The high metal content of the songs connects them together with some kind of stoner magnetic force. Even the slower sections have enough energy to power the entire album.

There's a bit of a stoner punk vibe going on here. We've got 7 tracks clocking into 25 minutes. These are not epic 15 minute slow stoner songs. Moozoonsii comes in hot, moves fast, and melts your face. Then they move onto the next song and do it all over again.

Moozoonsii calls their sound groove metal and I agree!

There's not much point to single out any of the tracks. They are all fresh, explosive, and exactly how I like my stoner groove metal. I will point out Fœtality is incredible so if you only share one track with your friends, it is a good choice.

I've put all of my heart, soul, and skills into making this awesome metal album that is new and original in a style that is my own, that I can only describe as true "21st century groove metal" paying homage to my favorite artist/albums while staying honest and true to my own style. 

I wanted to make an album that I myself would be stoked to hear/discover and I feel that I finally did this on this album! That being said, I am extremely proud of this album and I hope you love this debut album as much as I do!!!! 

If you followed my last solo project you know that I like to make an album that "flows" from start to finish, so please give this EP an honest chance (its just under 20 mins). 

Fukkengrüven by Zero-day-wareZ

Two-Fisted Salute really funks out and gets the riffs in --


I was wondering about these lo-fi funky metal jams so I reached out to Mike (the guitarist) who had a great story to tell. These jams were recorded by the three guys (Mike - guitar / Ashe - bass / Ev - drums) back in college. Just them, their rig, and a single mic in the middle of the floor. But then a week later the drummer disappeared only to re-surface later in Germany! Alas, another lost rock n roll drummer. He was after a lady and we know what happened after that. So a few years later, Mike was going back through the recordings and cuts together what we have here in the album. But there probably won't be another Zero-day-wareZ album, at least not with the same line-up, unless the drummer decides to return from Germany. So enjoy these jams for now.



Blazed really gets its groove on. And for something a little more stoner, check out Dune Rider --



Is stoner jam a musical genre? If it is, then Dune Rider definitely qualifies.

The Bolt is downright funky --


Some of the tracks are heavier than the others, some are funkier, and well... you get the idea. Just start the album and enjoy an hour's worth of instru-metal jamming.

But wait, there's more! I might have got my cracklins crossed and Mike has a few updates --

We met in college and formed our musical appreciation together there. We recorded jams 1, 2 & 3 in College, then Jams 4 - 13 (where this album was cut from ) 10 years later, meeting up at rehearsal studios.

And Ev, the drummer, has been all over the Europe & Asia... he's actually in Finland right now! He split up with the girl he chased years ago and now he's roaming solo. Surely that means there's a chance he may return? Who knows. Ev is a mystery.

Oh - and I have more recordings to dig through - I may have another half a dozen tracks I could publish, maybe more. I'll see what I can find!

So that's great news -- there could be more tracks! I'll keep the crawdads boiling.
