"Zero Kelvin" by VANTA

"Zero Kelvin" by VANTA

Just released on Bandcamp is the new album "Zero Kelvin" from Hungary's VANTA. I've always enjoyed Vanta's no-holds-barred approach to sludge and their fearlessness when it comes to trying new directions, and "Zero Kelvin" continues Vanta's reach into new sonic territory. Guest vocals, acoustic guitar, cello (!!), and spoken word -- Vanta is completely fearless in their approach to sludge. Listen to "Zero Kelvin" on Bandcamp:

"Zero Kelvin" lights the fire with a 13-minute opener, which begins with acoustic guitar but that is just an intro to an explosion of sound. Next up is a previous release, "Church of the Holy Shit" which captures the epic guitar tone that Vanta has always delivered, along with a background of church organs. This is song is downright catchy in addition to smacking your face with broken pew.

"Feel Alive" and "Invisible Parasite" contain some mind-blowing guitar solos, and the cello on the last & title song "Zero Kelvin" is surely one of the most unique moments of any sludge album this year.

Hands-down, "Zero Kelvin" is Vanta's best work yet, and delivers a solid album with exciting experimentation that adds to the music rather than distracting from it.  Be sure to dive into Vanta's back catalog if you have yet to discover everything that Vanta has to offer. (Especially check out the split with HER HIGHNESS.)

From the band:
Zero Kelvin is a collection of dystopian lullabies. A journey through landscapes of disphorian metaphors. A bottle filled with the frozen water of the black sonic river.

We are Vanta, a metal duo of long-time friends from Budapest, Hungary. We named the band after one of the darkest human made materials in order to reflect our musical intentions. We play a mixture of sludge, doom, and stoner metal. We spice our music with odd time signatures (used recreationally) and a guitar tuned to the depths of hell. We are pushing the limits of our instruments experimenting with heaviness, highly inspired by beer.

Evil Notions by Clyde Von Klaus

Evil Notions by Clyde Von Klaus

Fuzzy is in Vegas this week looking for new digs (and keeping Mrs. C loaded with beverages) but I had to take a break to check out the new album "Evil Notions" from solo band CLYDE VON KLAUS. And I am really digging this one! This is a high-octane blend of doom, metal, grunge, and layers upon layers of killer vocals. Have a listen to  Evil Notions by Clyde Von Klaus on Bandcamp:

I gotta say, this whole album has me on a gigantic trip down memory lane to a time when bands like MOTHER LOVE BONE were laying the foundations of the grunge revolution that on the way. But that's not to say "Evil Notions" is exactly the same thing -- but it lives in the same world with its raw energy, killer riffs, and those awesome vocals.

Some of the highlights for me include the vocals and guitar on "Freezing Drizzle" and "Fatalistic" and the slow, heavy riff of "The Futures Past." But every song on this beast is a winner.

From the band:

Clyde Von Klaus is a one man band from Hutto, Texas. All songs created by coming up with some drum beats. Then I bring the songs to life by the drums commands. Spontaneously written and put together. Mistakes and drum clicks just add to the raw thrill of playing hard. No click tracks and no plan. The process is creatively and artistically rejuvenating. The closest thing to being in a band I’ve been able to recreate.  The thrill of putting ideas together on the spot and seeing what it creates and in the end it surprises me.

Check out the CD and follow the band Clyde Von Klaus on Bandcamp for more music & news at https://clydevonklaus.bandcamp.com

Jazz metal KAJGŪN debut album "Maorey"

Jazz metal KAJGŪN debut album "Maorey"
Maorey cover (artwork by Győző Mesterházy)

It's no secret that Fuzzy digs heavy psych (read my MERLOCK review) and improvisational jams (CROW CRASH RADIO), so when KAJGŪN sent me their debut album "Maorey", you know I was reaching for the PLAY button before I was finished reading their email. And this 4-piece from Hungary delivers the "real deal" in metal improvisation with extended guitar jams, saxophone, theremin (the most psychedelic of all instruments), and most importantly, experimentation. To me, psychedelic music represents not only guitar work and effects that send your mind off into outer space, but it should be done with a delivery that is not afraid to try a new and unique approach. Have a listen to KAJGŪN's debut album "Maorey" on Bandcamp:

From the band:
We use drums, guitar, sax, electric violin, and a theremin. In addition, Adam and Andras use various effects on the violin and the sax.

If it's instrumental and loud then I'm in for a spin. And when it's from Master Boot Record, I'm in for a lot more than just one spin. This guy takes electronic, video game soundtrack, chiptune, and more and makes it all his own. His latest album is Virus.DOS and it's released today. Stream the album and ready Fuzzy Cracklin's review of the electronic album Virus.DOS by Master Boot Record after the break....

Fuzzy Cracklins Presents ... Marco Di Stasio

As we know here in the bayou, instrumental metal (or instru-metal, get it?) is what gets our crawdad tails shaking. If you think the black metal sticks & strings duo of Dos Brujos has too many members, then you need to check out Marco Di Stasio. He's a one-man musical machine with over 120 albums to his credit. Here's his latest album, Walk In Desert --

Marco Di Stasio -- Walk In Desert
Marco Di Stasio -- Walk In Desert

How do you like the dark, bleak album cover? Pretty cool, right? Shamless plug -- I took that picture on one of my excursions out of the swamp. And I kid you not -- it was so hot that day and it was a 3 mile hike to the car ... for a while there I was seriously worried if I was going to make it back. It's the Amboy Crater in the Mojave Desert if you want to take a look on google maps.

So this album is the perfect soundtrack for that day! Full of doom and dark riffs, but it never gets boring or repetitive. If you have never listened to a Marco Di Stasio album before, you will notice they are actually a single composition that is divided into 5 or 6 tracks. Think of how a classical composition might be, except done with a distorted guitar and full of melodic, riffy doom metal.

Did you think I was kidding when I said Marco has released a lot of albums? Here's just a few of the tracks from his recent Best Of compilation -- be sure to scroll to the end of the track list for a killer Metallica instrumental cover!

Marco tells me he develops the melody for a song, and then records its guitar track. You can see in his videos that he is really killing it, too. So he kicks out an album pretty quickly. He lays down the bass, too and then wraps it up with some drum programming.

It's easy & cliche to say "underrated" in today's world with so many talented musicians and so few dollars to support them, but in Marco's case I truly believe that term applies to him. One day a lot more fans will have heard Marco's unique metal sound, so check him out now and be among the first.

Fuzzy Cracklins Presents ... Dos Brujos

Everyone out here in the bayou knows a screeching vocal can rile up the gators, so we mostly listen to instrumental music. Metal, of course. Black, thank you. And for black metal, we always turn to Dos Brujos.

Dos Brujos might be the kind of band you could only find on Bandcamp. How else does a boy from the bayous of Louisiana find a pair of black metal jammers in their hidden lair in Austria?

Dos Brujos Wizards from Planet Jam
Dos Brujos Wizards from Planet Jam

The two wizards (it's just Arminaut on guitar and Dirtyromi on drums) record each jam once and it never gets played again. So if it turns out good or bad, that's it. So far I haven't heard any bad ones. Their style varies on the jams, from thrash to doom to somewhere in between. Sometimes there's a little phaser, too.

I lost count of the number of albums they put out over the past couple of years but I think it's around 40 or so. Which you can easily add to your collection since they are all Name Your Price (as in Free or more). But you'll want to kick over a little cash to these guys so that they can swill a few beers while they jam, and also some of the albums have bonus hidden tracks for those of you with a couple of extra dollars.

There is always a great cover, too. Some are science fiction featuring Bruce Pennington, others are old line art depicting some aspect of the dark arts.

Albums drop mostly on Fridays just in time for the weekend. That's weekly during their creative bursts and a few times a month when the wizards are on holiday.

Dos Brujos don't use vocals but they have used soundclips. Check out this great set of clips from Goodfellas --

Check out the entire catalog of Dos Brujos jams on Bandcamp.

Leave me a comment about Dos Brujos or if you have an album for me to check out. \m/,
