Fuzzy is tripping out on the new krautrock album "Escape From Moronia" from Germany's Highest Primzahl On Mars. This is psych rock of the highest order -- plenty of chugging guitar grooves, instrumental vibes, outer space melodies, and plenty of theremin!
Fuzzy can't get too much stoner metal out of France. Moozoonsii, Nydeaf, Pusherkid .... the tough guitars and the rough riffs. So when HYDE sent me their debut self-titled album, I was all over it. And does this ever deliver the goods. Not only with angry music that fits these awful times so well, but there's also the angst-full vocals and killer samples. (FYI, Fuzzy loves samples.) Everything about the debut effort screams in your face that HYDE is a band to be reckoned with. Dig this great album:
I gotta point out that there are enough musical ideas packed into this full album to fill out 2 or 3 albums for a lesser band. I don't mean just the variety of the riffs between the songs, but within each song there is a lot going on. Listen to "Tsunami" a few times and unpack how much is going with this song. Just really great!
Hyde describes their sound as "power stoner" and I agree with that.
There's a fantastic balance to the instruments as well. The bass stands on its own without taking over, the drums provide tons of variety without getting splashy, and the guitar sails crips and clear over them both. A great production.
Ahhhh and the samples.... "D W A G B" is my idea of a perfect song. Chugging heavy riff underneath a classic sample. (Walter's eulogy from the end of "The Big Lebowski.") "Hunter's Run" comes in a close second with its own killer sample (from "True Detective"). Hyde really digs some cool shit.
HYDE produces heavy and powerful rock with stoner accents, influenced by the Swedish doom / sludge scene and North American stoner-rock. This mixture of influences gives Hyde a particular style which they qualify as Power Stoner.
Fuzzy digs the raw edge to the debut stoner doom album from Spain's DOPES TO ETHEREAL. The band puts the focus on the bass and lo-fi female vocals. If you dig the energy you hear in a live recording, you are going to like this album a lot. Check it out:

ACID DOOM RITES is the debut album from Russia's MEGALITH LEVITATION. This album is WAY over an hour and starts right off with a slow, heavy, distorted riff and it just doesn't let up for the full hour and 17 minutes. The vocals fit the heavy mood perfectly, and they sound more like chants than singing. The only thing to do when the music is this fuzzed-out and heavy is to check it out:
I gotta say some more about how much I dig the vocals on here. They are nasty and evil, and are like drugged-out chants. The vocals fade in and out to give the music a dimension of other-worldliness that is downright frightening. Try listening to this album in the background while you are doing something else, and you will notice the vocals kick in when you least expect them to. The effect is really fantastic.
I don't give spoilers, but jump to 14:15 of "Eternal Trip / The 4-th Plateau" if you dig sound effects in your songs as much as I do, and right after that, a killer guitar solo begins which doesn't give up until the end of this epic 25 minute track.
The title track "Acid Doom Rites" starts off with chants and a very foreboding riff. This song puts the "occult" in the "occult metal" sound of this album.
Smouldering Embers of Pyromagic
"Smouldering Embers / Pyromagic" are the titles for the last track, and these two phrases sum up this album perfectly. When the debut album is this good, we should be excited about what is in the future for Megalith Levitation.

Band live rituals erase the thin line between illusion and reality, guiding the audience through parched walkways of eternity. Psychedelic sermons that take your mind on a trip to unknown recorded on a debut album of occultists from Chelyabinsk.
EnFire is a stoner doom trio from New Zealand with their 65 MINUTE debut album JUNIPER LANDING. Doom, killer vocals, a bit of psych, and 100% stoner. Some really great guitar solos going on too supported by the rhythm section that never misses a step. You know how much I love a good sample, and the first track DANK DUNGEON has that covered sooooo well. Music video for NICOTINE below.
