Praise the Sun "IN: Thermoglobal Endpoint (Remastered)" heavy metal

Praise the Sun "IN: Thermoglobal Endpoint (Remastered)" heavy metal

Fuzzy loves a remaster! It's like getting your house remodeled -- you already love the place, but want to make it better. A remaster is also a chance for a band to re-introduce a great album to their fans. PRAISE THE SUN just released "IN: Thermoglobal Endpoint (Remastered)" so here's your chance to get acquainted with this collection of 8 heavy metal tracks from the glaciers of Norway. Listen on Bandcamp:

Overall, it's the vocals that take front stage, with their sinister, fuzzed-out, hazy approach. They are a hallmark of the band's sound. But don't stop there! Dig a little deeper and the drum lines and  guitar riffs will reward your doom bone. There's a nice variety too, from classic sabbath worship ("...of the Pallid Mask") to hints of eastern flair (such as in "Temple of Lukos").

Fuzzy's Favorite: "Reunion" might not be the most representative track in relation to the other songs, but I really dig the riff on this one, and it makes for a great album closer.

Praise The Sun band hails from Norway.

The band will release a new EP on October 21 titled "Alchemical Slave: Omen of Fire" with 4 new tracks. Be sure to follow the band to get news about the release.

SPACELORD "False Dawn" stoner rock full release on Nov. 5

SPACELORD "False Dawn" stoner rock full release on Nov. 5

SPACELORD drops their new album "False Dawn" on November 5, and you can catch a few of the tracks right now on Bandcamp. This duo from New York will blow your mind with their unique blend of desert rock and heavy psych. A lot of time and effort went into these songs, and the result is an album full of heavy riffs and mellow melodies. Listen to the pre-release tracks from Spacelord's "False Dawn" on Bandcamp:

Spacelord is a band that takes the best of my favorite bands and rolls them into one killer album. One track has me thinking, "Yea this would have been a killer Zeppelin tune" and then the next has me wishing Soundgarden had never broken up. Don't get me wrong -- I'm definitely NOT saying that there is anything derivative here. Spacelord's songs are inspired by the same music that all of us love, and the result is original and amazing. Some of the songs are heavier, some are slower, and all of them are killer stoner tunes. There have been a lot of great releases these past few months, and Spacelord's "False Dawn" is definitely among the best of them!

The full album release is on November 5 and is available for pre-order now at https://spacelordband.bandcamp.com/album/false-dawn

From the band:
False Dawn draws together the band's many influences, from 70s acid rock like Zeppelin and Sabbath to the dark, heavy sound of Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. "Some of the music was written in the days and weeks that followed the death of my brother, while some others were concepts I had wanted to explore for a long while," said guitarist Rich Root. "We're taking the personal impressions of all of our influences and amalgamating them into something that makes us feel like the music we love makes us feel."
I asked the band to tell me about the cover art (which I find to be amazing!) and here's what they told me:
We kicked around a bunch of art direction ideas, but we didn't have a clear vision, we were just looking for something that might inspire us. There were several artists we considered working with, and we found some amazing museum photography of ancient artifacts that might have worked. In the meantime, I was messing around with this program called Artbreeder. Artbreeder uses something called a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) to "learn" what different types of images should look like, and which ones look best. Users then collaborate with the program by setting the parameters or mixing different images or types of images together. It has an album art setting, which is what gave me the idea to go in this direction. There were some promising images from our early experiments (I've attached an example here),
Early version of the album cover by Artbreeder
but the problem is, Artbreeder knows albums have word-like shapes on the covers. But it doesn't know what words actually are, so when it generates album art it creates these weird cryptoglyphs in place of the band name and album title. We'd have to either incorporate them into our concept or just put our text over them. In the end we weren't happy with what we got out of the program. Then I started playing with Artbreeder's landscape setting. By going through several iterations, it started to learn what kind of fantastical, surreal visions I liked best. When we got this one, it was instantly clear we had a winner. So this album cover is actually a crop of a wider landscape. There's also an alternate version of it that could serve as the back cover if we're ever able to do a vinyl run of False Dawn.

  • Vocals, guitar: Ed Grabianowski
  • Guitars, bass, drum conjuring: Rich Root

Heavy metal "Vs. Gargantuan" by SUPERLORD

Heavy metal "Vs. Gargantuan" by SUPERLORD

TLDR; Hell yea!

"Vs. Gargantuan" by SUPERLORD rips. Simple as that. 4 tracks that spend most of 30 minutes laying down a metal assault that is both super fresh but also reminiscent of the best of 70s and 80s metal.

I would still listen to 80s metal if it all sounded this good. And to be fair (to the band, not to 80s metal), SUPERLORD adds some modern elements from stoner doom like extended riffs and an extra layer of fuzz. And the clean guitar solos (especially in "Desert Ruins") are right out the best of 70s heavy rock. That's not to say any of these riffs are derivative. Not in the least. It's more like, SUPERLORD is inspired a lot of great music, and on "Vs. Gargantuan" they are sharing those inspirations with us.

Fuzzy's Favorite: "Desert Ruins" which is easily one of the best songs from last year that I've heard. But the whole EP is just as solid and just as good, and the extended length of "Alice Olive" definitely gives it some bonus points, while the vocals on the title track are flat-out heroic (musically and lyrically).

SUPERLORD is from England with members:

  • Aaron Brennan - Guitar/Vox
  • Tom Humphrey - Bass
  • Mike Whittle - Drums

Stoner metal PSYLOW teases with 3 debut tracks

PSYLOW
PSYLOW
PSYLOW is a heavy metal 5-piece out of San Diego with as much love for the 80s and 90s as Fuzzy has. There's a stoner vibe going on too, and these debut tracks have a foundation of green heaviness that will definitely appeal to any stoner metal fan. 80s heavy metal, 90s grunge, and Psylow rolls the both into their own stoner metal sound. Dig these debut tracks from PSYLOW:

"Blood Blister" is the song that first grabbed Fuzzy's attention. I was wandering around Bandcamp on the lookout for some killer fresh music for my 420 charity comp, and found this beastly track. The buzzing guitars, the pounding rhythms, and the nasty vocals ... man, I was hooked right off!

"Dirt Nap" is the chuggiest of the trio. The guitar work here just keeps ripping out the fuzz, and the vocals are unstoppable.

"Snake Charmer" lays down the longest song of the bunch, which gives the guitars a chance to slow it down a little. But not much! They deliver another killer song along with the most epic guitar solo.

There's a nice variety to these 3 tracks that shows off the band's mastery of their instruments, but there's no misunderstanding that they all come from the same heavy stoner metal band.

Fuzzy can't wait for more! But he'll have to wait, because Psylow says they're still working on their debut album.

Psylow band is from San Diego with members:
  • Shawn Upchurch
  • Kip Page
  • Greg Noriega
  • Jason Busiek
  • Bill Driskill

DESERTS OF MARS new heavy rock EP "Return from the Void" is pure badass

DESERTS OF MARS new heavy rock EP "Return from the Void"
DESERTS OF MARS new heavy rock EP "Return from the Void"
20 minutes of badass heavy rock is waiting for you on the new EP from DESERTS OF MARS. It's been a few years since their last album, and by the sound of it the band has been saving up the hard fuzzy riffs until they were ready to be unleashed. This set of tracks doesn't slow down at any point, and the vocals soar over the fuzz to deliver one of the best hard rocks albums I've heard this year. Check out "Return from the Void" from Deserts of Mars:

Deserts of Mars is from Austin and its members are:
  • Tony Salvaggio – Founding/lead member of DoM whose growling bass has been known to shake the stars and is the perfect complement to his melodic vocals.
  • Morgan Faber - A drum powerhouse from another galaxy, laying waste to foes with thunderous fury.
  • Bradley Barnes - Heavy Axe-Slinger extraordinaire, his guitar is known to soothe the stars or shatter planets, whatever the Mars Metal deems necessary.

From the band:
Austin, TX based Deserts of Mars was formed in 2006 with a heavy fuzzed out bass sound and the idea that the Riff Rules ALL!!!

Bretus "Aion Tetra" heavy horror metal

Bretus "Aion Tetra" Italian doom metal
Bretus "Aion Tetra" Italian doom metal
BRETUS aims to deliver music fitting for a 70s horror movie, and they deliver that (and more) with heavy riffs and atmospheric effects on "Aion Tetra". This band has been around a while and puts their experience to use with a album full of heavy metal fit for any midnight ritual in a foggy graveyard. Listen to Bretus "Aion Tetra" --

"Priests of Chaos" starts slow with the effects setting the mood, and then the song drops in a killer riff and clean vocals. All the songs on the album are solid like this. "Prisoner of the Night" is flat out heavy metal. The good kind. A real ripper. "Aion Tetra" is surprisingly short for a title track. "Deep Space Voodoo" gets back to the slow and heavy. Has a real taste of symphonic doom. Real good.

"Mark of Evil" is back towards heavy metal. Again, really high energy and a good song. You'll notice the tracks are alternating between heavy metal and the more atmospheric & symphonic.

"Cosmic Crow" has a well-deserved video on YouTube -- check it out! This single really hits the core of Bretus' sound -- heavy metal with atmospherics and symphonics.

"Fields of Mars" is short but very doom and dark (great track) and "City of Frost" anchors the album with yet another killer dark track.

Overall, I really dig how heavy this album sounds, while delivering on the haunting atmospherics and effects. Need an album for Halloween? Or why not any day of the year? Look no further than Aion Tetra from Bretus.

Bretus is:
Ghenes (High/Low Guitars and Fx),
Zagarus (Vox),
Janos (Bass),
Striges (Drums)
From the band:
Doom band from Italy founded in 2000.
Their inspirations are: Old horror movies, H.P. Lovecraft, mysticism and 70's music.

WEIGHTLESS WATERS from Finland's KING OF NONE heavy stoner metal

WEIGHTLESS WATERS from Finland's KING OF NONE
WEIGHTLESS WATERS from Finland's KING OF NONE
"Badass" is my 1 word review of the new heavy stoner metal album WEIGHTLESS WATERS from KING OF NONE from Finland. Emphasis on the heavy and also on the metal. These guys took their time with this one and you can hear it. Pure energy from start to finish, fantastic sound production, an arsenal of power riffs with guitars attacking you from every direction. I love the variety to the vocals, and the fantasy-inspired lyrics are right up my alley. The guitar solo in DESOLATOR is so fucking cool but hardly the only one. Listen for yourself:

We're King of None, a 5-piece heavy psychedelic stoner prog rock band from the arctic wastelands of Finland. We released our third EP entitled Weightless Waters in May 2019 and even got a song onto Spotify's editorial playlist "Metal from Finland", which is a huge deal for us with Finland being known for its metal music.
