Goth rock STONEHAG new album "Nocturnal Affairs"

STONEHAG new album "Nocturnal Affairs"
STONEHAG new album "Nocturnal Affairs"
Fuzzy hopes this review finds you safe and calm in these dark times. The new album from Portugal's STONEHAG captures the current mood well with his new album, "Nocturnal Affairs" with its dark mood, darker lyrics, and angst-inducing tones carried along with some downright groovy licks. Check out "Nocturnal Affairs" by Stonehag:

The dark, heavy synth rhythms flow like a river of sludge through a zombie city, and yet the music has a stoner doom element to it which keeps the songs from becoming completely overwhelming. In fact, the title song "Nocturnal Affairs" gets right into a funky club vibe with some great solo guitar work.

This is a full album at 7 tracks and 40 minutes, and the songs flow really well. This is definitely an album to turn on and enjoy its darkness through to the end. "Cigarette Burns" in particular really stands out to me, and deserves to be included in the soundtrack for a good vampire or zombie movie.

Stoner rock fans should check out "Nocturnal Affairs" by Stonehag.

Stonehag band is a solo band featuring G.R. from Portugal. From the band:
'Nocturnal Affairs' marks the return of Portuguese musician G.R. under the moniker 'Stonehag',with a brand new set of original songs for your listening discomfort. Again a departure from the previous albums sound, with a more electronic approach to songwriting yet retaining the same vibe that we all have come to dearly despise. Hope you can find some comfort in the sounds and words of 'Nocturnal Affairs'.

Live psych "Seed to Stoned" from DESERT MAMMOOTH

Live psych "Seed to Stoned" from DESERT MAMMOOTH
Live psych "Seed to Stoned" from DESERT MAMMOOTH
420 is just around the corner so let's get ready with some excellent stoner music from Portugal's DESERT MAMMOOTH. Besides being excellent instrumental stoner with synths, this album was recorded live using incredible production quality which captures the vibe and energy from the show yet holds up to high volume listening. Check out Desert Mammooth's Seed to Stone:

The whole set has such a high quality to the music and production that it's hard to pick a favorite track. "Random Constellation" reaches the highest peak in terms of flat-out energy, and "Yellow Monkey" captures the band at its most psychedelic.

The synths add a layer of psych to stoner foundation and sends this album right into heavy psych outer space.

Desert Mammooth band is from Portugal with members:

  • Guitars by Jaime Quental
  • Drums by Daniel Torgal
  • Bass by Bernardo Esteves
  • Synths by Rodrigo Vieira

From the band:
Heavy psych stoner rock quartet from Almada Portugal. In the summer of 2014, a casual talk became something not that casual. Back in their hometown Almada, after a trip that fueled Jaime and César to make music together, they decided to invite Tiago to play the bass and Desert Mammooth was born.
After jamming for a couple of months, they started writing their first songs like Arvoredakara or Yellow Monkey, which are a part of their EP “There’s an Elephant in the Room”, released on October 2016.
Their music is a mix of stoner with psychedelic rock getting close to that doom heaviness in some cases.
In the last 2 years they played together, jamming on top of the hill where the mammoth lives, creating themselves through hypnotic psych stoner rites, picking up nice heavy influences to create far-out landscapes.
April 25th 2018 Desert Mammoth released Random Constellation (single) with Salazar Minibrute playing synths and Random Constellation side B Multi Jam track where everyone exchange seats.

Stoner psych Hanging Gardens by Stones Of Babylon is superb

Hanging Gardens by Stones Of Babylon
Hanging Gardens by Stones Of Babylon
The debut stoner psych album "Hanging Gardens" from STONES OF BABYLON is an instrumental joy to the ears. This album has a blend of swirling psychedlics mixed with heavy riffs that instantly transports your mind to the desert where it can wander amongst the cactus and peyote. This album has gotten a lot of plays here in The Swamp since it was released last month. Check out "Hanging Gardens" from Stones of Babylon:

There is a wonderful sonic flow to the album. Things start off heavy with the first track, get heavier with my favorite song "Coffee Arabica" then chill out with the middle title, and wind things back up to finish off the album. I'm not sure how the band is going to top this album, but I can't wait to find out!

The CD is available from the Stones of Babylon Bandcamp page.

Stones of Babylon is from Portugal with members:
  • Guitar - Pawel Nowak
  • Bass - João Medeiros
  • Drums - Pedro Branco

From the band:
Portuguese band from the milennarian city Lisbon, plenty of cosmic inspiration, with one foot in the past, another in the future, the head in the present and the expanding soul, like the universe ...

MISLEADING instrumental doom psych debut

MISLEADING S/T instrumental doom psych
MISLEADING S/T instrumental doom psych
"Instrumental" and "Doom" are two words which when combined into a single phrase "Instrumental Doom" stop me right in my tracks. And then add some heavy psych to that?? When I got an email from MISLEADING about their debut album, I went straight to their Bandcamp page for a listen. When I noticed the album time clocks in around 45 minutes, that really sealed it for me. And sure enough, this band delivers a mind-blowing heavy doom psych experience. Thick, slow as it wants to be but more than able to kick up the tempo any fucking time they like, and enough guitar solos to please any heavy psych fan. Check out MISLEADING S/T:

One thing that is great about "Misleading Self-Titled" is the way it gladly embraces its heavy psych sound with its breaks in tempo and killer guitar solos, but doesn't end up getting into prog. (Don't get me wrong; I love progressive metal too, but it doesn't belong on this album.)

A great example where Misleading keeps the doom heavy but lets the guitar take off into outer space is around the 7 minute mark on "Karmemoto" where you need to buckle in and prepare for a hyperspace jump. And a killer sample on top of that? It's almost too much for an old gator like me.

As I said, this clocks at around the length of a killer vinyl, and it has the balanced sound you would love to hear on a record. There's a ebb and flow to the doom, and pacing to the psychedelic guitar work that make this a killer album to listen to straight through in a single session.

Spend a buck (or more!) when you download this album on Bandcamp so you'll get the bonus track. Right on! It's just as killer as the rest of the songs, but it puts the album way past being able to fit onto a vinyl.

From the band:
We'd like to introduce you our instrumental heavy psychedelic rock, doomy, raw and freaky. Featuring members of Shades, SHC and Canens Carcer, the trio Misleading was born from the ashes of doom to hypnotize with wild psych fights, walls of sonic noise and tempestuous heaviness.
